Poor, poor pitiful me.

I don't know which is more depressing to me, the good blogs and Web sites, the ones that are really creative, or the really boring ones. I think it's the good ones. You expect don't expect lay people ... and by lay people I mean those who aren't creative professionals ... writers, artists and other poorly paid and incredibly over-worked types ... to have the ability to produce anything worth reading. And yet, they do. Stuff that they have a personal interest in, not editorials about fire safety or rewrites on press releases, but stuff they actually WANT to write about, and presumably, when they've finished working their day job. Meanwhile, when I get home, I'm nothing but a dry husk. Me, a professional writer, editor and not a bad photographer, and I don't have the mental acuity to answer the questions for a basic profile. What's my favorite book? I don't have a favorite book. I read four or five different books a week. That's, what ... 52 times 4 is like ... 200 books a year, so in my lifetime, I've read enough books to fill a ... well, a pretty big space. So I'm supposed to pick one from that? Or a favorite movie. I don't see that many movies, although ... if you think about how many movies I watch while in a work-induced stupor, that's at least 4 or 5 a week. Maybe more if you include sick days. So again, that's a lot of material to have to cycle through a brain. Especially when it's had to spend much of it's time doing the thinking for all those individuals whose brains are in neutral gear, have been temporarily misplaced or don't function at all. And yet ... my name does appear in print every day. People actually do pay money for the privilege of reading the newspaper, and my column. I do get stopped by people in the grocery store who say ... Excuse me, but are you Karla DeLuca? I love reading your column. OK, so maybe it's not that bad. Favorite book today ... Williams-Sonoma catalog. Favorite movie this week ... Deckchair Danny. Favorite television show tonight ... It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Letters to the editor

The good:
Karla,
Whether I read you in the paper or have the treat of an email out of your busy schedule, you are always such a bright, bright, spot in my life!

The bad:
Dear Ms. DeLuca,
Thanks ... for nothing.

The ugly:
It is rather sickening how you morons in the liberal media (including Karla DeLuca) are kissing Obama's rear end in this election. Do you not realize McCain/Palin is the way to go in this election? Even though Palin is 44, she still looks beautiful. She is intelligent and does the right thing. She is everything the liberal media is not - honest. Give me a female vice-president over a n--- president any day. If I am labeled a bigot, so be it. I have to honest about how I feel.

The bizarre:
EZEKIEL: 33-7-9
Thus says the Lord: You, son of man, I have appointed watchman for the house of Israel: when you hear me say anything, you shall warn them for me. If I tell the wicked, "O wicked one, you shall surely die," and you do not speak out to dissuade the wicked from his way, the wicked shall die for his guilt, but I will hold you responsible for his death. But if you warn the wicked, trying to turn him from his ways, he shall die for his guilt, but you shall save yourself.
Are you and your paper speaking out to dissuade the wicked? NO. So you will receive the same punishment.
P.S. Every day I have people ask me why I stopped writing in the paper.
